Open letter to Jeremy Hunt

7th April 2019

Right Honourable Jeremy Hunt,

Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs,

Dear Jeremy Hunt,

Please find enclosed petition signatories taken during an event held on 24th March in Bradford-on-Avon.  The petition was created to mark the 10th March 1959 anniversary of the Tibetan uprising against the Chinese occupation.

As the freedoms that we enjoy in the west are further eroded in China, it is becoming critical that we take an ethical stand.

The Chinese communist party is not our friend.  The Chinese people are taught at school about the ‘Century of Humiliation’ which started with the Defeat in the First Opium War (1839–1842) and ended with the Communist revolution in 1949.  This narrative is not challenged in China.

China needs democracy and freedom of speech.  Please join together with other like-minded UN countries to deliver a resolution on the human rights situation in China so that the Tibetans an other minorities can live in peace.

Yours Sincerely

Richard Moulton
